For a game that is almost entirely free and entirely digital, should it be a surprise that Fortnite gift cards exist? Probably not for Epic Games' cash cow. After all, even for games that are exclusively played online, physical presence in brick and mortar stores is still important. That is why Epic Games will be starting to sell V-Bucks gift cards in stores soon. It can also help grandparents out with holiday shopping for grandkids. Unfortunately, it seems that only US retailers will be getting these physical cards right now, but other countries like Canada, Germany, and France are next on the list.
The gift cards come in four different amounts ranging from 1,000 V-Bucks to 10,000 V-Bucks. Generally, the V-Buck to USD conversion rate is about 100:1, and the gift cards stay pretty close to that. The trouble with gift cards for digital currency is that there is often tax on top of what you are really paying for. Remember Mircosoft Points? It was always cheaper to buy them online. What Epic Games is doing is adding bonus V-Bucks to the gift cards; the higher the amount, the more bonus Bucks you get.
The 1,000 V-Bucks costs $10 USD with no bonus. The $25 gift card gets you 2,500 V-Bucks plus 300 bonus, totaling to 2,800. $40 gets 4,000 + 1,000 bonus V-Bucks for a total of 5,000 V-Bucks. The largest amount is the 10,000 V-Bucks card, priced at $100. This comes with 3,500 bonus V-Bucks. These cards work on any platform, so there are no cards just for Xbox One or PS4 or PC. They also do not have to be purchased in physical stores. While the option is there, you can take advantage of these bonus Bucks online. It's very generous of Epic Games to make it easy for you to spend your money.
